the history

The estate consists of 5 farm units grouped together across a vast hilly and mountainous area ranging from 400 to 1000 meters above sea level, covering a total area of approximately 300 hectares.

The five farmohouses of ancient origin (La Conca, Santarsa, Vallorsaia, il Cungi, Cantone) date back to around the 15th century and have well-documented historical roots.
They are typical examples of agriculture in hilly areas, characterized by low environmental impact farming practices, small cultivated plots, often terraced and enclosed fields, distributed across extensive wooded areas.

"FROM ABANDONMENT TO REBIRTH"

The land, following the mechanization of agriculture and industry in the 1950s, was abandoned.

This abandonment resulted in the deterioration of the buildings and cultivated areas, while simultaneously preserving the original architecture of both the residences and the agricultural arrangements.

Since 1980, we have embarked on a project to restore and rejuvenate the estate, undertaking conservation restoration work on both the buildings and the surrounding environment to enhance the historical heritage of these ancient settlements and the rare biological diversity of the small cultivated plots scattered like a mosaic within the forest. Today, the rural homes made of stone, wood, and terracotta, carefully restored and equipped with all modern comforts, located 3 to 5 km from the historic center of Sansepolcro, allow us to offer our guests an exclusive holiday in an environment of rare beauty.

the buildings, before and after

“Santarsa” is the residential evolution of an ancient military watchtower, retaining two beautifully vaulted ground-level rooms.
It boasts a dominant position overlooking the entire Valtiberina.

Before

“Vallorsaia” was once an agricultural estate belonging to the ancient Monastery of the Sisters of Acquitrina, which is now completely gone. The name “Vallorsaia” likely derives from its location in an area dense with forests and wild nature.

After

“Cungi” is an ancient farmhouse consisting of a barn arranged perpendicularly, a stable located to the southwest, with its stone drainage floor still visible in the current living room, and the courtyard: a terrace overlooking the valley, supported by beautiful stone walls.

“Cantone” Originally a rural farmhouse with an attached chestnut drying shed and stable, the ground floor housed a small carpentry workshop to meet family and agricultural needs, along with a cellar. The sulfurous water once used for daily life has now been transformed into the revitalizing SPA.

lA CONCA

From a passionate search for a modern balance between respect for NATURE and the use of the land, a new way of experiencing AGRICULTURE has emerged. In the continuous rediscovery of farming traditions, new ideas for enhancing natural resources blend seamlessly, without conflict.

Traditional agricultural activities include forestry, forage production, and the organic cultivation of cereals and olive trees. The timber from our forests is processed at the farm’s sawmill and used as biomass for heating the accommodations through a district heating system that connects the entire estate.

The agriturismo perfectly fits into this network of activities, enhancing them and allowing visitors from the city to experience them firsthand.

We wish to offer you a place of natural simplicity and ancient harmony.
